Corrosion Engineer / Corrosion Scientist

Role Description

Corrdesa is a small, expanding high technology company that develops and sells corrosion prediction software and consultancy services to help our clients reduce and mitigate corrosion risk in design and sustainment, primarily in aerospace and defense.

Corrdesa’s primary business is in the areas of corrosion modeling, electrochemistry, coatings and test methods related to materials and corrosion, corrosion control through the use of coatings and surface treatments, and other aspects of electrochemistry related to corrosion and materials degradation. Our key business streams are:

  • Software and hardware sales related to corrosion prediction and repair of civilian and military assets
  • Helping clients in responding to materials substitution required by US and overseas environmental and health regulations such as US OSHA, and European REACH
  • Support and training in use of brush plating/anodizing equipment
  • Process developments for new coatings

We are looking for a motivated self-starter with a passion for corrosion who is willing to take on responsibility, seize new opportunities, and grow with our company. Excellent technical writing and communication skills are required for effective interactions with customers in defense organizations and manufacturers.

The successful candidate will work with senior technical staff in the laboratory working in electrochemical measurement and coating development. The work will involve executing R&D projects, designing experiments and use of test equipment, evaluating data, report writing, and interacting with engineers in other organizations.

Corrdesa’s primary business is with the US aerospace and defense sector. Domestic or International travel to military depots and customer sites may be required.

Reporting to the Senior Scientist, responsibilities include:

  • Perform local electroplating/anodizing processes using dedicated state of the art equipment as required
  • Test and assembly of new local electroplating equipment for DoD customers as
  • Delivery of on and off-site training in use of electroplating/anodizing equipment
  • Perform electrochemical and corrosion measurements following best practices and data post-processing
  • Perform polymeric coating formulations for electrochemical analysis
  • Log results accurately and in a timely manner
  • Design process experiments using DOE methodology
  • Create test coupons and specimens
  • Set up, adjust, operate and maintain laboratory equipment and
  • Expand job specific knowledge through training, on-the-job learning, and scientific and technical publications
  • Promote a clean and safe work environment while adhering to laboratory and company ESH/QA practices and policies
  • Record, store and summarize information on procedures and results in a written format
  • Complete work within schedule to meet reporting and deliverable deadlines
  • Update and maintain lab inventory system

Basic Qualifications/Experiences

  • Applicant MUST be a U.S. Citizen or a U.S. permanent resident (Green Card holder) at the point of application due to government program
  • Advanced degree (Bachelors or Masters) in Mechanical/Material/Chemical/ Corrosion Engineering, Physics, Chemistry from an accredited university
  • Up to 3 years of work experience in academia or industrial R&D setting, or in close partnership with industry partners, with focus on surface science, surface treatment, accelerated corrosion

Preferred Skills

Familiarity/experience with electrochemical characterization techniques using AC and DC methods such as Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, Voltammetry, Galvanostatic polarization, Rotating disk electrode, Linear polarization to evaluate the electrochemical behavior of metals and coatings. Good knowledge of corrosion fundamentals, specifically galvanic corrosion, atmospheric corrosion, localized corrosion, and alloying effects on corrosion performance, and related accelerated corrosion testing standards.

In addition:

  • Experience with electrochemical/corrosion prediction and modeling techniques and related software tools
  • Proficient in standard MS Office software and basic statistical concepts
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Attention to details
  • Demonstrated ability to take theoretical constructs and apply them to real-world problem solving
  • Ability to work simultaneously on long-term and short-term projects, proven multi- tasking
  • Knowledge on use of typical coating technologies used in aerospace, automotive, oil & gas, marine and similar industries
